Chasing Him by Kennedy Fox is available NOW!!
Read my thoughts on this single parent romance story!
John Bishop isn’t your typical single dad.
Reserved, impatient, and utterly clueless.
Running the family’s bed and breakfast has many perks. Working long hours, picking up after the guests, and hearing couples going at it all night long aren’t any of them. Hooking up with girls who come to the ranch for horseback riding lessons? Best perk of them all.
That is until a baby shows up at his doorstep with a note claiming it’s his. Growing up on a ranch was anything but easy, but raising a newborn is proving to be the hardest task he’ll ever tackle. Leaving the bachelor life behind, his only priority is to hire a nanny who can teach him a thing or two about parenting—except he doesn’t anticipate her being gorgeous and quirky with an unhealthy football obsession.
Mila Carmichael has many talents—making balloon animals, creating origami art, and remaining in the friend zone. Often seen as one of the guys, she’s struck out more times than a rookie baseball player.
Seeking a new adventure, she flies to Texas to visit family and is offered a position she can’t refuse. Helping out a new dad should come easy to her, considering her past experience, but what she doesn’t anticipate is him being an attractive Southern temptation.
But that’s only the beginning.
While growing close to his family and falling madly in love with the baby girl who’s stealing their hearts, things are bound to get complicated. Everyone knows not to mix business with pleasure. That means no late movie nights, no stolen glances, and definitely no kissing behind closed doors. Too bad the universe has other plans—one that’ll threaten taking away the main thing that binds them together.
Oh my goodness. I thought I had already found my favorite Bishop brother but it turns out I hadn’t even meet him yet—well, I had in the other books but briefly. Now I am 99.9% sure John is the one. He is my favorite and I’m not changing my mind so y’all can go snatch any of the other brothers because he’s mine. Okay? Okay. Now that that’s settled let’s move on to the things that made me fall in love with him and his story.
John is a single dad. Not only is he an adorable parent who love his daughter with his entire heart but he is also a complete southern gentleman. He is the meaning of irresistible with his brilliant mind and gorgeous looks. It is impossible not to fall for his charms since the beginning and I promise you that by the end you are going to love him even more.
His relationship with Mila, the heroine, is off-the-charts hot and full of romance. You can feel the lust and sexual tension between them from the moment they meet but like I said, John is a gentleman and she’s his daughter’s nanny so of course he’s not going to sleep with her… at least not as soon as they meet anyway. Prepare yourself for a slow burn romance that’ll have your stomach butterflies going crazy.
I also loved the dynamic between Mila and John. I loved how they got to know each other slowly and they fit into each other’s lives perfectly. They were the perfect mixture between friends and lovers. And I couldn’t have been happier for them because everything just flowed so darn smoothly between them.
I’m giving this one a 4.5 because even though John is my favorite Bishop brother and even though I LOVED the heck out of this story I still found myself skim reading some parts near the end of the book and I hadn’t skim read a single word before that. I don’t know exactly why but I think at the time I felt like things were getting too cheesy? Too unrealistic? I’m not sure. My mood totally betrayed me with this one.
I hope y’all decide to pick up this book—or the entire series—because everyone needs a little southern charm in their lives, especially during the summer. There’s just something about summer and cowboys, you know what I mean? I bet you do so pick up this book! You will fall in love with the Bishop family and Kennedy Fox’s (AKA Brooke & Lyra’s) talent for making hearts skip multiple beats with the most amazing heroes.
4.5 / 5 flowers
As soon as I walk into the living room, I see Mila in tight blue jeans and a low cut shirt that shows way too much cleavage.
“Nope.” Resting my hands on my hips, I look at her, trying not to stare at her chest. It doesn’t help that her nipples are hard as a damn rock either. Fuck. Eyes up.
“Nope, what?” she asks, furrowing her brows in confusion as she grabs Maize out of the swing.
“You can’t wear that shirt. Actually, we should probably set some ground rules since you’ll be staying here around the clock.”
Mila rolls her eyes and kneels down in front of the carseat. She’s dressed Maize in an outfit that says something about Grandma being her favorite, and I know Mama is going to love it. “Is that what you do ‘round here? Make rules for everyone?” She arches an eyebrow with a cocky smirk on her face.
Tilting my head, I narrow my eyes and study her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Ask Jackson.” She carefully places Maize in the car seat and straps her in. I suck in a deep breath remembering the nanny rules I’d given Jackson, the ones she wasn’t supposed to hear.
“Jackson needs rules. He has zero boundaries. And it’s not like he listens to anyone anyway. Trust me. It’s an open invitation to flirting and ridiculous comments from him. So you can’t be wearing shirts like that around him.”
“…or I can’t be wearing shirts like this around you?” she quips, not paying any attention to how frustrated I’m becoming. “I think I can handle Jackson, so stop worrying yourself.”
She straightens up and looks me dead in the eyes. “You’re my boss and you can make any crazy rules you want when it comes to your baby, but you don’t get to tell me what I can and can’t wear, unless you’re instating a dress code for me and if that’s the case, I want a raise and a clothes allowance then.”
I scoff, crossing my arms over my chest that’s rising and falling rapidly. “How much for you to wear baggy overalls and turtlenecks every day?”
“You’ve got jokes, do you?” she mutters, not amused. “Why not just put a chastity belt on me too while you’re at it?”
I grunt, thinking that’s not a bad idea actually.
