Review: The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

It’s been one year since it happened…

When Paige Hancock’s first boyfriend died in a swimming accident, she shut out almost everyone. Now Paige has decided it’s finally time to rejoin the world, and she has a plan. First on the list: go out with Ryan Chase, her longtime and newly single crush. And last on the list: swim. Terrifying, yet possible?

But when Ryan’s sweet, nerdy cousin Max moves to town and recruits Paige for the QuizBowl team (of all things!), her perfect plan is thrown for a serious loop. Starting over isn’t easy, but Paige knows the scariest things are usually the most difficult. Can she face her fears and open herself up to life and love again?

What can I say about this book besides I love it? Emery Lord has written an incredibly cute book about love, loss and starting to live again. The Start of Me and You is a nicely romantic book, not honey dripping but romantic enough, I found it very light and quick to read and I also found Paige’s story very heartwarming and inspiring because in a small town where everyone saw her as “the girl whose boyfriend drowned”, somewhere along the lines after Aaron died, she lost herself, she stopped being who she really was and started being the girl everyone saw her as, but recently she’s started to think and to want to be her true self again.

My favorite character most definitely has to be Max, he’s just so flipping cute. He truly made my heart melt every time and wonder why can’t I have a guy like him, he’s just so nice and considerate, funny, supporting and I just oh my god fell in love. Max and Paige’s story is so… real, it wasn’t like some books where you read something cute and you love it but you know it would never happen in real life, Max and Paige bond over small things and things grow from there which I just found so cute.

Overall I truly loved this book, I don’t think I could ever get tired of it, the love, healing and real ness feed my heart when it needs it most, thank you Emery Lord for writing such a gem! I 10/10, 100%, recommend this book to anyone who likes romances. In my eyes it’s perfect.
