Review: Riot by Tillie Cole

PSA: This is the last book in the Scarred Souls series by Tillie Cole. I recommend reading the whole series because that way you won’t miss out on other 3 amazing books. I haven’t read the rest of them because I’m dumb so don’t be like me.

In a nutshell (aka Goodreads Description):

Stolen by the Arziani Georgian crime mob as a child, 152 was raised and conditioned to be a Mona—the most subservient of the Arziani Blood Pit slaves.

Gorgeous and kind, she has been and under the imprisoning influence of the Type B drug and under the command of the Blood Pit Master’s sister, Mistress Arziani, for most of her life, until the Master calls her back home to Georgia.

He wants her under his total control, and Master always gets what he wants.

But when 152 is gifted to the Blood Pit’s fearsome champion death match fighter as a prize, 152 suddenly finds out that the men who appear most brutal, may just own the kindest hearts. And love may be found, even when living in hell.

Freedom, family, love, 152 will have to fight for what she wants and ultimately make an impossible choice.

My review (aka Diana’s review):

Y’all I almost made a terrible, terrible mistake. I was about to abort mission on this book because I thought it was way too dark for my liking. SMH. I would have missed on a freakishly amazing book.

Riot is the story of 152 and 901. They’re slaves to the Master. 901 is the undefeated champion of the Blood Pit but the Master wants him to do as he’s told and for that the Master needs to break 901. When 152 and 901 first meet, the Master knows that he’s found a way of controlling 901. 152 is the Master’s “High Mona”. The Master is obsessed with her. Unfortunately for him, for the plan to work he needs to give 152 to 901. But as 152 and 901 spend more time together, they start to fall for each other and little did the Master know, he would actually break 901 but he would lose his precious “High Mona” at the same time.

Note: I know it feels very weird not knowing 152 and 901 real names but don’t you worry, you’ll discover their names eventually.

I fell in love with both of the main characters because even though they live in what is pretty much hell, they are the kindest human beings ever.
Tillie made an amazing job at writing this book. She blew my mind because 152 and 901 love is so pure that it makes this book be dark and sweet at the same time. I know, you probably think I’m out of my mind but you have to read it to get what I’m talking about.

When I was about halfway through the book I was so darn worried that it wasn’t going to have a good ending. My hope was -1. But Tillie found the perfect ending for 152 and 901. So don’t lose all hope like I did.

Also, this book is a total page turner. It keeps you on your toes. It will give you all of the feels. It has the butterflies, the angst, the anger, the happiness, the love and the hotness. Oh my. I feel myself blushing just thinking about it.

This book is very, very dark and beautiful at the same time. So if you don’t like to read books that contain lots of death and sexual assault and dark themes like that, then stay away from this book. When I started reading it I thought I wasn’t going to be able to finish it but I decided to keep reading and thank goodness that I did because I loved it. I absolutely recommend it.
