Beau Fortier starred in most of my cringe-worthy teenage fantasies.
I met him when I was a junior in high school, a time that revolved exclusively around bad hair, failed forays into flirting, and scientific inquiries into which brand of toilet paper worked best for stuffing bras.
That is, until Beau moved into the small guest house just beyond my bedroom window.
A 24-year-old law student at Tulane, Beau was as mysterious to me as second base (both in baseball and in the bedroom). He was older. Intimidating. Hot. Boys my age had chicken legs and chubby cheeks. Beau had calloused hands and a jaw cut from steel. Our interactions were scarce—mostly involving slight stalking on my end—and yet deep down, I desperately hoped he saw me as more of a potential lover than a lovesick loser.
Turns out, I was fooling myself. My fragile ego learned that lesson the hard way.
Now, ten years later, we’re both back in New Orleans, and guess who suddenly can’t take his eyes off little ol’ me.
My old friend, Mr. Fortier.
But things have changed. I’m older now—poised and confident. My ego wears a bulletproof vest. The butterflies that once filled my stomach have all perished.
When I was a teenager, Beau warned me to guard my heart.
Let’s hope he knows how to guard his.
Such a fun book! R.S. Grey really is an expert when it comes to romantic comedies. Every single book I’ve read by her has made me laugh, swoon and relate. Her characters are funny in the “real life” kind of way, not too funny to the point that makes you want to roll your eyes because who can be that hilarious?! Impossible! But definitely funnier than your average human. They are also romantic enough to make your heart flip-flop but not enough to give you a sugar high. They are just amazing! Gosh!
The Beau & The Belle is divided in two parts. In the first part Lauren, our heroine, is a junior in high school and Beau, our hero, is in his final year of law school. Beau is renting an apartment from Lauren’s parents. At first Lauren is not very interested in him since she already has a massive crush on another boy but as she and Beau become closer, her feelings start to change. Beau is interested in Lauren too but she’s only seventeen and he knows it is not the right time for them so they drift apart. Ten years later Lauren moves back to New Orleans and there’s nothing stopping Beau from chasing after her this time. Or so he thought.
I’m a fan of the chase. I love when a hero is so infatuated with a heroine that he does his best to woo her even though she says she’s “not interested” (hint: she’s actually BEYOND interested). There are some men that are a pain in the butt when they are trying to get the girl but not Beau. He’s respectful, a complete gentleman, sexy as sin. He’s pretty much perfection in one sexy body. Everything he does will have everyone swooning and he is definitely my new book boyfriend.
Teenage Lauren is Teenage Me. Literally. My teenage self has never felt so related. Teenage Lauren is so awkward and cringy—like pretty much every single teenager. She acts like a total weirdo around her crush. She is innocent and cries over her embarrassing moments at the cotillion rehearsal (me, me, me). She is going to have y’all reviving those cringeworthy moments of your lives and laughing because who cares about those embarrassing moments anymore?! (Actually, me. LOL.)
Grown up Lauren is what I aspire to be. Intelligent, a boss, poised, confident and… pretty much everything she wasn’t as a teenager. Kidding, she’s still a bit awkward and a little too talkative and funny without trying. The best heroine you could ever ask for.
If you need a light read in your life, pick up this book. NOW. R.S. Grey kicked it out of the park with this amazing book. The Beau & The Belle will have you wishing you lived in New Orleans, had a business called NOLA and a gorgeous man called Beau eating out of the palm of your hand.
